Development cooperation policy is implemented through bilateral and multilateral cooperation mechanisms. Latvia is aware that the challenges of sustainable development today are to be solved collectively and, to this end, supports effective multilateral cooperation and actively engages with international organisations in shaping the agenda for sustainable development and addressing issues.

Given the cross-sectoral nature of sustainable development and the various stakeholders involved in development cooperation (public administration, civil society, the private sector), Latvia aims to follow the whole-of-society approach in its development cooperation and to create an environment that promotes cross-sectoral cooperation.

Latvia’s development cooperation is implemented in accordance with guidelines approved in the planning documents. The main planning documents that underpin the development cooperation policy implemented by Latvia are the development cooperation policy guidelines and development cooperation policy plans.
