Veronika Erte, Latvia’s Ambassador to the Holy See, meets Pope Francis on a farewell visit

The Ambassador of Latvia to the Holy See, Veronika Erte, went to the Vatican for a farewell visit at the end of her term of office.

Ambassador Erte met with Pope Francis on 6 November during his General Audience. On 7–8 November, the Ambassador had farewell meetings with Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin; Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, Substitute for the Secretariat of State; Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States (Foreign Minister); Msgr Joseph Murphy, Chief of Protocol; and  Msgr Daniel Pacho.

On 4 November, the Ambassador met with Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.

Pope Francis and the officials of the Holy See thanked Ambassador Veronika Erte for her work in the strengthening of relationship between Latvia and the Holy See. During the meeting, the parties commended the active cooperation and outstanding bilateral relations. Ambassador Erte gave thanks for excellent cooperation, exemplified in particular by the Apostolic Visit by His Holiness the Pope to Latvia on 24 September 2018.

Ambassador Veronika Erte was accredited to the Holy See on 17 December 2015. Since September 2017, Ambassador Erte has been residing in Vienna, Austria.
