On 12 December 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts a conference devoted to development cooperation, titled “Latvia’s contribution to sustainable global development: Seeking new cooperation models”, organised in close cooperation with  “The Latvian Platform for Development Cooperation” (LAPAS http://lapas.lv/en/home/ ), a Latvian NGO. The event will feature a discussion on what has been accomplished over the 15 years of Latvia’s cooperation for development and on plans for the future, as the works begins on a new cycle in the development cooperation policy planning for 2021–2025.

The conference will be launched by Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Inese Vaivare, Director of LAPAS.

The participants will discuss global and local trends in development cooperation, the opportunities for a broader involvement of the private sector in development activities. Opinions will also be shared on how to promote public support and understanding of Latvia’s contribution to the development of partner countries with the aim of strengthening stability, security and sustainable growth in the European Union and beyond.

To take stock of what has been accomplished and to foster an exchange of views on further steps, the audience will include the current promoters of development cooperation projects – representatives from central and local government authorities, non-governmental organisations, the private sector, higher education institutions, as well as experts in development-cooperation-related areas from among the Latvian diaspora.

Watch the live streaming of the conference from 10.00 a.m. on LAPAS YouTube channel @LAPAS_LV
