On 10 December 2019, eleven political prisoners released by Russia and their family members will begin a ten-day rehabilitation course at the National Rehabilitation Centre Vaivari. During their stay, the visitors are to meet with Latvian government officials, be welcomed in the municipalities of Saldus and Ogre, go to Bauska and the Rundāle Palace, as well as enjoying a Christmas concert.

On 25 November 2019, the Latvian Cabinet of Ministers approved the allocation of 34,000 euros from the State Budget “Emergency Funds” Programme for rehabilitation in Latvia of political prisoners released from detention by Russia. The former political prisoners join in the rehabilitation programme along with members of their family.

Since 2014, Latvia has provided medical and psychological assistance to 56 Ukrainian soldiers injured in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. With support from Latvian municipalities, summer camps have been organised for the widows of the fallen soldiers and for children impacted by the conflict.
