On 21 November 2019, Tallinn hosted the fourth political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Baltic States and the Republic of North Korea (South Korea) at which the officials discussed bilateral cooperation, developments in Asia and Europe, and cooperation in addressing global challenges.
The participants at the consultations evaluated the current cooperation between Baltic States and South Korea and prospects for expanding contacts in business, culture, education, digital technologies, as well as transport and logistics.
The officials also shared views on the current regional and security issues, including the situation on the Korean Peninsula and Ukraine, and other factors having influence on the regions.
Those present commended the successful cooperation in tourism, culture and education, highlighting in particular this year’s charter flights from Seoul to Riga, which gathered positive responses from Korean tourists and “Korean Air”, the carrier which arranged the flights.
The Latvian delegation at the consultations was led by the Head of the Bilateral Relations Directorate at the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Ilgvars Kļava. South Korea was represented by Kim Pil-Woo, Director-General for European Affairs.
