On 7-8 November 2019, Riga is hosting a training session for consular employees working at the Latvian diplomatic and consular missions abroad. The training covers topics related to the provision of consular assistance and consular services. Lecturers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will inform the trainees about the latest developments in the field of consular assistance, with a special focus on the protection of the rights and interests of minors and assistance to vulnerable groups. An expert from the Ministry of the Interior will provide advice on the identification of victims of human trafficking.
At the training session, the consular employees will also increase their knowledge of consular services, including e-services offered by Latvian public authorities that are accessible remotely for those living abroad.
In order to improve the visitor service skills among consular employees, the training content includes a simulation game, Frontline, devised to acquire the principles of excellent customer service. The game will be played on both days of the training session with support from a European Social Fund project, “Professional development of public administration for development of better legal regulation in the field of support to small and medium-sized enterprises” (No. 184.108.40.206/15/I/001).
Last year, after a longer interruption, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs resumed the organisation of training sessions for locally employed consular staff at diplomatic missions, who perform support functions in consular matters.
