On 4 November 2019, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Andris Pelšs, met with the Ambassador-designate of the United States of America to Latvia, John Carwile, who had arrived on an accreditation visit.
Andris Pelšs highly appreciated the strategic nature of the relationship between Latvia and the United States of America. The State Secretary underlined that support provided by the U.S. has considerably advanced Latvia’s defence capabilities and that Latvia is interested in promoting further cooperation with the U.S. in the security and defence sector.
John Carwile noted that the U.S. administration and the Congress see Latvia as a close and reliable partner for cooperation. The Ambassador expressed his readiness to further facilitate the political dialogue between Latvia and the United States, strengthening cooperation in defence, and seeking new opportunities for development of business cooperation.
The U.S. Ambassador has submitted a copy of his letter of credence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ceremony of accreditation with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, has been scheduled for 5 November.
