On 1 August, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, presented letters of credence to the new Ambassador of Latvia to Lithuania, Indulis Bērziņš.
From 1999 to 2002, Indulis Berziņš was the Foreign Minister of Latvia in the governments of Prime Minister Andris Šķēle and Andris Bērziņš. Beforehand he was a member of the Supreme Council of the Parliament of Latvia, and then also a member of both the 5th and the 6th Latvian Parliaments. Beginning in 2003, he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipoteniary to Denmark, the UK, Austria, and the non-resident Ambassador of Latvia to Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, and Slovakia, as well as General Inspector of the Latvian Foreign Ministry.
Immediately before taking on his new role as Ambassador of Latvia to Lithuania, Indulis Bērziņš served as Latvia’s Permanent Representative to NATO.
