On 12 March 2019, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Italy, Solvita Āboltiņa, presented her letters of credence to the Captains Regent of the Republic of San Marino, Mirco Tomassoni II and Luca Santolini I.
In her address at the accreditation ceremony, Solvita Āboltiņa underlined that Latvia and San Marino were linked by shared values of freedom, democracy and peace, which form a good basis for cooperation. The Ambassador expressed satisfaction that during the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the EU, San Marino together with Andorra and Monaco began negotiations on an EU Association Agreement.
The Ambassador and the Captains Regent also discussed opportunities for future bilateral cooperation. The Latvian Embassy has already set the ground for cooperation in culture and tourism both by presenting Riga as the European Capital of Culture some years ago and, jointly with the National Tourism Development Agency, organising a seminar on our country’s tourism offer. During the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2015, an exhibition titled “Art Nouveau Architecture: Riga and Latvia” was shown in San Marino with support from the Latvian Embassy.
As part of her accreditation visit, on 11 March, the Ambassador also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Political Affairs and Justice of the Republic of San Marino, Nicola Renzi; the Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Massimo Ghiotti; and the Ambassador of San Marino to Latvia, Federica Bigi, who is also Director for Political and Diplomatic Relations at the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of San Marino.
The Ambassador of Latvia, Solvita Āboltiņa, resides in Rome, Italy.
