On 5 March 2019, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Croatia, Dr Siniša Grgić, who is in Latvia on an accreditation visit.
During the meeting, the State Secretary praised the friendly political dialogue between the two countries and highly appreciated the upcoming official visit by the President of Latvia to Croatia later this March.
The parties were unanimous about the need to strengthen bilateral economic relations and build contacts between the companies of both countries. The sectors of bioeconomy, smart technologies and engineering systems, biomedicine, smart energy and ICT have potential for enhancing cooperation.
Andris Pelšs and Dr Siniša Grgić expressed satisfaction at the similar positions of their countries on the issues of current importance for the EU and international policy, and they underlined preparedness for the further strengthening of cooperation between the EU and NATO, as well as in international organisations.
The State Secretary congratulated Croatia on launching preparations for its Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2020; he wished Croatia good luck and success with the fulfilment of the responsible task the country would assume for the first time.
In an official ceremony in the Riga Castle, the President of Latvia, Raimonds Vējonis, accepted credentials from the Ambassador of Croatia.
As part of his accreditation visit, the Ambassador also met with the Deputy Speaker of the Saeima (the Latvian Parliament), Dagmāra Beitnere-Le Galla.
