On 18 July 2018, the Under Secretary of State, Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, welcomed a farewell visit from the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Latvia, Robert Krmelj.
Andris Pelšs thanked the Ambassador for his contribution to the strengthening of bilateral relations between Slovenia and Latvia. The diplomats praised the successful bilateral relations, whilst also stressing their interest in dynamising of the political dialogue and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Political Director Pelšs expressed gratitude to Slovenia for contributing its troops to the NATO enhanced Forward Presence battle group in Latvia. Robert Krmelj, for his part, highly appreciated Latvia’s assistance to Slovenia during the refugee crisis in the second half of 2015 and the early 2016.
In their meeting, the officials also discussed issues high on the European Union’s agenda – migration and security policy.
Ambassador Krmelj was accredited to Latvia on 11 September 2017. The Ambassador resides in Warsaw, Poland, and has also been accredited to Estonia and Lithuania.
