Information on citizenship of Latvia, including dual citizenship, documents to be submitted and forms to be filled in is available at the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs of Latvia.

Visitors must sign up for an appointment at a diplomatic/ consular mission if they wish to address matters of citizenship. Please arrange your visit by contacting the diplomatic/consular mission.

Birth certificates and other public documents issued in the EU, the member states of the European Economic Area and Switzerland can be used in Latvia without any authentification. See further information on the recognition of foreign documents in Latvia here.

Documents that have been issued in a country, which has joined the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents should be certified with an Apostille by the competent institution of the issuing country. Documents that have been issued in a country, which has not joined the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents should be certified with an Apostille by the competent institution of the issuing country and the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or a diplomatic/ consular mission of Latvia.

Foreign documents, except those in English, Russian, German or French, must have a notarised translation in Latvian or in any of the aforementioned languages.
