Legalisation of documents

Legalisation of a document means verification of the genuineness of the undersigned official’s signature and the seal of the issuing institution, so that public document drawn up in one country would become legally valid in another. This function is performed by foreign services and consular officers at diplomatic missions.

Document cannot be legalized if the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not have at its disposal a specimen signature of the undersigning official and a sample of the relevant seal or stamp, or if they do not comply with the requirements for the processing of documents specified in legislation (for example, translations or copies are not bound together and sealed, the document is laminated etc.)

Legalisation of documents is performed within 2 office days or within 2 hours from submission of documents. If Consular Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the moment of submission of documents does not have at its disposal a specimen signature of the undersigning official and a sample of the relevant seal or stamp, legalisation of documents is performed within 2 office days or within 2 hours when a specimen signature of the undersigning official and a sample of the relevant seal or stamp are received at the Consular Department. 

Fee for the legalisation of one document is as follows:

15 EUR – legalisation within two office days;

30 EUR - legalisation within two hours.

Upon submitting documents for legalisation, please present/submit following:

1) your passport/eID;

2) the document to be legalised;

3) filled-in application formif several documents are submitted, additional application forms need to be filled in;

4) bank statement on state fee payment or the fee can be paid at the Consular Department with a credit/debit card (VISA, VISA Electron, Maestro, Master).

The processing of payment at the credit institution or an online banking system can take several days. The service is provided only after the payment has reached the State Treasury.

 

Documents submitted for legalisation can be picked-up at the following times:

Monday 13:00-17:00

Tuesday 9:00-12:00

Thursday 9:00-12:00

Friday 9:00-12:00
